About Us

We are a Scunthorpe based Nationally registered Charity no.1087797.

We cover North Lincolnshire and District.

C.R.I.G. was formed by a number of patients who had been to Scunthorpe General Hospital after having had Heart problems of one kind or another.
On completing the hospital based cardiac rehabilitation programme they were unsure of what to do next. They formed a support group called Heart2Heart which is social in its function and has been succsessful for over 15 years. Some of the members felt that there was a need to further support people in the area, who had developed Heart Disease and needed treatment, surgery or medication. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at the Hospital also needed help to expand.

 C.R.I.G. was born

The intention was to raise funds to provide a facility to enable the delivery of a comprehensive service to heart patients and their partners or carers. The initial hope was to raise enough funds to build or convert a facility dedicated to the preservation and protection of good health in persons suffering from any form of cardiac related illness. This is still the ultimate aim.

We raise funds in order to help the present Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at the hospital to expand their service and to take it into the community. C.R.I.G. has supplied  them with some neccessary equipment for the gymnasium at the hospital and for the outreach venues at  Epworth, Brigg and Barton so they can reach patients who cannot attend the hospital programme.

C.R.I.G. also is involved in community projects which are encouraging a healthy life style e.g. providing seats on designated walks, running Tai' Chi classes and talking to local school children about looking after your heart.

C.R.I.G. chairperson Mrs Mickie O'Toole, who has first hand experience as a cardiac patient, hopes that by working with the cardiac rehabilitation team we can help enhance the service they provide to give cardiac patients in our area the chance of living a full and active life.

C.R.I.G. aims  to help and support local heart patients, their relatives and carers.
